CNNSI.com Users' All-Pro Team

Posted: Thursday January 20, 2000 06:57 PM

Jacksonville's Tony Boselli allowed just three sacks during the regular season. Stephen DunnAllsport

CNNSI.com asked users to respond to Peter King and Dr. Z's picks for the NFL All-Pro team with your own and more than 3,300 submissions later, we've tallied your responses.

Your picks are listed below in bold, along with runners-up and the number of votes each player received. There were a few blowouts, with Marshall Faulk and Mike Alstott runaway winners for running back and fullback and Olindo Mare a shoo-in at kicker, but several of the categories were close.

CNNSI.com Users' All-Pro Team
Quarterback
Kurt Warner, St. Louis: 1,946
Peyton Manning, Indianapolis: 1,349
Steve Beuerlein, Carolina: 129
Brad Johnson, Washington: 121
Warner is my QB because he's the best one this year just check the numbers.
Joe Horrocks, Scranton, Penn.
Running Back
Marshall Faulk, St. Louis: 2,118
Edgerrin James, Indianapolis: 863
Stephen Davis, Washington: 324
Eddie George, Tennessee: 245
I picked Faulk cause he's the best all-purpose back in the NFL.
Mike Santarpio, Spring Hill, Tenn.
Fullback
Mike Alstott, Tampa Bay: 2,378
Sam Gash, Buffalo: 669
Tony Richardson, Kansas City: 361
Bob Christian, Atlanta: 98
Mike Alstott did everything plus more that you could ask from a fullback.
Ron Berman, Thornhill, Ontario
Wide Receivers
Marvin Harrison, Indianapolis: 2,422
Cris Carter, Minnesota: 1,569
Randy Moss, Minnesota: 1,348
Isaac Bruce, St. Louis: 965
Jimmy Smith, Jacksonville: 365
Harrison is the top WR flat out and Carter will always show up and do great even though he is getting older and is one of the top leaders in the game.
Jody Aramburo, Philadelphia, Penn.
Offensive Line
Tony Boselli, Jacksonville: 3,185
Orlando Pace, St. Louis: 2,559
Bruce Matthews: 1,977
Larry Allen, Dallas: 1,870
Tre' Johnson, Washington: 1,589
Kevini Mawae, NYJ: 1,127
Tarik Glenn, Indianapolis: 902
Frank Winters, Green Bay: 776
Boselli and Allen are simply the best linemen in football. Bruce Matthews as been consistently great for at least 12 years. Orlando Pace is beginning to show why is was a high draft pick and Tre Johnson is a leader of the Redskins line.
Brian Gautier, Pensacola, Fla.
Tight End
Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City: 2,137
Frank Wycheck, Tennessee: 742
Wesley Walls, Carolina: 568
Tony Gonzalez is the most athletic and gifted of Tight ends along with Ricky Dudley however, I suspect that Gonzalez has a better work ethic and a system designed to use the tight end more.
Brian Gautier, Pensacola, Fla.
Kicker
Olindo Mare, Miami: 2,136
Mike Vanderjagt, Indiapolis: 779
Jason Hanson, Detroit: 274
Mike Hollis, Jacksonville: 225
Mare was the best weapon on the Dolphins.
David Franklin, Rye Brook, N.Y.
Kick Returner
Tony Horne, St. Louis: 1,286
Tamarick Vanover, KC: 674
Glyn Mulburn, Chicago: 528
Tiki Barber, NYG: 399
Horne was spectular this year with plenty of kicks returned for TDs. This was Desmond Howard in the Super Bowl in every game, almost.
A.J., Buffalo, N.Y.

Linebackers
Zach Thomas, Miami: 2,136
Junior Seau, San Diego: 1,641
Derrick Brooks, Tampa Bay: 1,603
Ray Lewis, Baltimore: 1,600
Kevin Hardy, Jacksonville: 1,297
Hardy Nickerson, Tampa Bay: 895
Dexter Coakley, Dallas: 759
Jessie Armstead, NYG: 728
Zach Thomas is one of those guys who I like to call Fluties: when told they're "Too Small" to play football, they reply: "Oh yeah? Watch."
Brendan H.D. Sweeney, Austin, Texas

No way Junior Seau can be left off of an all-star team (all offensive planning begins with how to avoid him).
D. C. Snyder, Coronado, Calif.

Brooks made tackles all over the field, and Ray Lewis consistently had 10 tackle games.
Jamie Stoddard, Edmonton, A.B.
Tackles
Warren Sapp, Tampa Bay: 3,018
Bryant Young, SF: 1,113
Darrell Russell, Oakland: 577
Trevor Pryce, Denver: 572
Luther Elliss, Detroit: 389
Sapp is the other best player on the Bucs dominating defense.
Tyler Roush, Rainier, Ore.

Bryant Young played for a fairly pathetic team this year, coming off an injury and still did enough to earn my vote here.
Dan Wolovick, Kingston, Ontario
Defensive Ends
Jevon Kearse, Tennessee: 3,076
Tony Brackens, Jacksonville: 1,073
Kevin Carter, St. Louis 1,067
Simeon Rice, Arizona 759
Robert Porcher, Detroit 524
Jevon Kearse is just freak nasty. A rookie he is not. Regardless of his stats.... honestly I thought he deserved a lot of consideration for the league MVP.
Tom Liptak, North Huntingdon, Penn.

Brackens has been a good d-lineman for years and deserves some more respect.
Omar Usman, Miami, Fla.
Defensive Backs
Charles Woodson, Oakland: 1,903 (CB)
Sam Madison, Miami: 1,762 (CB)
Deion Sanders, Dallas: 1,422
Shawn Springs, Seattle: 1,412
John Lynch, Tampa Bay: 1,293 (S)
Todd Lyght, St. Louis: 799
Donnie Abraham, Tampa Bay: 714
Robert Griffith, Minnesota: 712 (S)
Aeneas Williams, Arizona: 699
Rod Woodson, Baltimore: 640
James Hasty, Kansas City: 593
Sam Madison and Woodson are now neck-and-neck for NFL's top corner.
Scott Segal, Lynn, Mass.

To leave John Lynch off the All-Pro team would be a crime.
Richard Loza, Santa Barbara, Calif.

Robert Griffith is the most underrated safety in the game.
Jeremy "Dutch" Brown, Chicago, Ill.
Coach
Dick Vermeil, St. Louis: 1,324
Jim Mora, Colts: 789
George Seifert, Carolina: 503
Jeff Fisher, Titans: 463
The coach Dick Vermeil did a magnificent job with the Rams. His emotions are what the NFL needs. He is someone that really cares for football, integrity, and hard work. Money is no issue with this great coach.
Ray Silva, Silver City, N.M.
