Tamika Catchings Players like Tamika Catchings of Tennessee are the reason why the SEC is so competitive. Todd Warshaw/Allsport

CNNSI.com asked users to make their case for the best conference in women’s basketball. The SEC was the overwhelming favorite. But some users made strong cases for other conferences around the country. A sample of some of the most interesting responses follows:

There's no doubt that the SEC is by far the best and most exciting women's basketball conference in America. These ladies have shown this year that it was never just UT's Holdsclaw playing all the good ball.
Warren Thomas, Athens, Ga.

Everyone knows that the SEC is the most exciting conference in the nation. Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, and Auburn are all in the top 25 and they all could beat anybody. Tennessee beat UCONN and Mississippi State beat La. Tech. This conference has more national titles than any other conference. Tennessee has won the attendance title more times than any. This conference is awesome.
Brandon Witcher, Kimball, Tenn.

The Big East conference finally has some competition with the improvement of Notre Dame, St Johns, and almost all of the other schools. UCONN is still heads above any team in the nation, but other teams get so pumped up playing them, it makes for a very interesting and competitive conference.
Liz Carter, New Haven, Conn.

The SEC is still the No. 1. With Tenn. still being the darlings of the media without Holdsclaw they are still the targets of what the rest of the country measures their success against. But as we speak Georgia, LSU, and more surprisingly Miss. State, are putting themselves in position to steal Tennessee's thunder and turn Pat's hair Pre-maturely gray. The SEC is definitely going to be a hot spot with a number of teams that will give Tennessee and Georgia a run for their orange money. My pick is the real DAWGS from the left side of Alabama. They'll bite, wear you down, and chew you up if you slip up. Tennessee and Georgia had better be running on all cylinders or they'll find themselves in a REAL DAWG fight -- And you can print that.
Jha' Nae Brady, Grenada, Miss.

I like the Big 12 Conference the best. I just think the teams, especially the teams in the upper division of the Big 12, play such a fast tempo game. No game is a gimme. I love to watch Iowa State because of their fast tempo and shooting the threes. They seem to me to have a lot of turnovers because they don't stand around and hold the ball.
Nancy Swaim, Fairfield, Iowa

The SEC is by far the strongest conference in the nation. We have more ranked teams than any other conference. I think we weaken our rankings because we have to play our conference opponents. The conference tournament should be exciting. I hope that Georgia and Tennessee meet in the final game -- Although who knows, with the SEC!
Julia Hearnsberger, Fairfax, Va.

Women's basketball is fantastic and exciting to watch! I have to say that the SEC is the most exciting women's basketball conference to watch. The top teams in the SEC have to be concerned and play their best each and every time they step on the floor -- only the SEC and ACC can make this claim. The SEC tournament, held in Chattanooga this year, will be the most exciting! Everyone believes that Tennessee and Georgia are heading for a huge clash Sunday evening. The truth is, however, that other 10 SEC teams currently stand between them and have the capability to knock either one of them out of the tournament.
Frank Calfee, Knoxville, Tenn.

I love the little known Mid-American Conference. Of course I am speaking in terms of Women's Basketball. Not too long ago, Kent State Women beat Virginia only a few hours after Virginia got into the top 25. And then there is the candidate for Freshman of the year in Kristen Koestier at Western Michigan. It is as big as many of the others but doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Teresa Border, Rockford, Mich.

In what conference can you find great guards, great forwards, and great posts? In what conference are there three teams competing for a No. 1 seed in the tournament? Yes, it is the Big 12. If you have ever been to a Big 12 women's basketball game, then you know how hard it is to play anywhere. If you are on the road, who knows what will happen since every team has a high chance to win at home. Some people talk about how great the ACC and SEC are, but all I know is I would take the three top teams in the Big 12 against any teams in the ACC or SEC.
Tom Kiliper, Ames, Iowa

By far the SEC is the best and most exciting conference in America. Year in and year out the SEC has the most ranked teams, the most teams in the NCAA, the most teams in the Final Four and the conference with the most championships (six by Tennessee). Just look at the big names - Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Any of these teams would be at the top of any other conference. The SEC is simply the best.
Cari, Knoxville, Tenn.

While the Missouri Valley Conference may not have the top 25 schools like the other conferences, they will have an exciting finish to their regular season race. The Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears, with Kansas native and nation's leading scorer Jackie Stiles, will have to play at Wichita State for the Conference title. Then the top eight teams in the conference will have to come to one of the most exciting places to play in women's basketball, Hammons Student Center in Springfield. Their 9,000+ fans will be cheering the Lady Bears to win the tournament.
Adam Horton, Springfield, Mo.
